Patient OutcomesNarrative medicine is a practice in healthcare that emphasizes the importance of listening to and understanding a patient's personal story, using their narrative to inform diagnosis and treatment, and ultimately building a deeper connection between the patient and clinician by actively engaging with their experiences and perspectives on their illness. This talk discusses how you can develop skills to incorporate this into your practice.

Speakers

Diane Caruso, DNP is an actively practicing Nurse Practitioner for 42 years and dually certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She obtained her MS/FNP from State University NY Stony Brook and doctorate degree (DNP) from Duke University. Presently she is completing a Narrative Medicine program at Columbia University. She is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at Carson-Newman University. She has expertise in curriculum development, presently developing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program at Carson Newman University. She is a published author on a variety of topics including DNP models of quality improvement, scholarly project development, pediatric asthma, and ADHD. She has been married for over 40 years to a PA! They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Diane is a professional pianist and choir director.
