Kidney Disease and NephrologyIt is important to identify (using a new race-neutral eGFR calculator) those with chronic kidney disease (CKD) because we can make a difference. We can slow progression of CKD. There are new hypertension goals, new testing and management of albuminuria, new diabetes guidelines, and new CKD medications. One in three of your patients is at risk for CKD; do you know who they are? CKD is the most common comorbidity and kidney patients often die of CV disease. Kidney Disease kills more people than breast cancer, leukemia or prostate cancer.
Learning Objectives
- Define stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) using the new 2022/23 race-neutral eGFR calculator.
- Review urinary testing needed to both stage and predict progression of CKD.
- Discuss new Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines for management of CKD patients with a goal to slow disease progression highlighting issues of social determinants of health.
