Fungal Infections and Women's HealthVulvovaginal itching can be a very isolating and uncomfortable condition for many women. Prolonged itching is often over diagnosed as fungal, while, hormonal or dermatologic conditions are often missed. The goal is to provide a thorough skin exam of the vulva, while we delve into other causes of itching and irritation, and prevent over-prescribing of anti-fungal medications.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize the most common non-fungal causes of vulvovaginal itching.
- Interpret exam findings that coordinate with various types of vulvovaginal disease processes.
- Recommend interventions and when to refer to a specialty vulvar clinic.
